This slideshow screensaver is the latest in a long line of aquariums to grace our screens. There's something natural and calming about watching the fish swim by. But this one is special. It uses an innovative rendering engine, whose attention to detail surpasses what used to be possible with boring old 2D! Dream Aquarium Screensaver is distributed as freeware for non-commercial usage. User can obtain full version by purchasing licence key (registered version costs $14.95 USD).

The program installs like most other screensavers. There are buttons on the left to start, stop, show the options menu, and change resolution. On the right is a list of four different aquariums to choose from. Select one and click "Start". The program will immediately begin downloading some graphics files so you can begin enjoying your new screensaver right away!

Aside from quality graphics, the only real difference between the four aquariums is their size. There's a small, medium, and large version included. The small version is best for desktops and the large one best for laptops. The graphics in each aquarium are identical, but you could switch between them at will to change the size.

There's also a full screen option if you choose not to watch the aquarium. This displays a selection of different backgrounds such as scrolling leaves and waves crashing across your desktop. It could be used as a wallpaper if you so desired.

As far as performance goes, Dream Aquarium Screensaver worked well on both my laptop and desktop. There was very little lag time between the time I clicked the buttons, and when the program began running. The interface was also very responsive with fast enough speeds for such a large program such as this to work quickly.

There's a large variety of fish to watch in this screensaver. They swim by slowly in large 3D circles around your monitor, which creates an almost hypnotic effect. The fish move in predictable patterns, and most can be easily identified by their different shaped and colored fins and scales.

There are also numerous fish that are harder to find. They're still fun to watch, but you may have to look closely to see their unique differences. Also worth mentioning is the fact that almost all of the fish in this aquarium breathe air instead of water.

The 3D rendering engine did a great job creating an immersive and convincing illusion based on what we saw on screen. Most noteworthy is how well the water was rendered. The lighting passing through it appears smooth and dark, which made for a beautifully stunning display of moving shapes and colors dancing across your monitor.
